Town Clerk’s Welcome Remarks

I welcome you to the City of Masvingo! We are a vibrant ancient city which was founded in 1890 and was the first large settlement to be established by the Pioneer Column of the British South Africa Company which makes it the oldest town in Zimbabwe. It was named Fort Victoria after Queen Victoria and was later renamed Masvingo after independence in 1980. As a local authority we are driven by cardinal principles of diligence, hard work and steadfast commitment to the City’s stakeholders (residents and ratepayers). Our vibrant workforce is committed to providing adequate and sustainable municipal services to clients and diverse socio-economic development opportunities to all stakeholders.

The City of Masvingo has 6 departments.

1. Town Clerk’s Office
2. Chamber Secretary Department
3. Engineering Services Department
4. Housing and Social Services Department
5. Finance Department
6. Health Department

All the foregoing Departments are unwavering in their commitment to the development of the City as a habitable and industrial hub of the nation given its geographical location which is central from all entry points of the country. To shore up the image of the City as an investor destination we exhibit every year at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair. Finally, we collectively strive to be an industrialised metropolitan city by 2030.
