Sexual Harassment

Sexual harassment is “where any form of unwanted verbal, nonverbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature occurs, with the purpose or effect of violating the dignity of a person, in particular when creating an intimidating, hostile, degrading, humiliating or offensive environment”.

City of Masvingo has adopted a sexual harassment policy to cub sexual harassment issues. Report any issues of sexual harassment to the gender desk.

16 Days of Activism Commemorations

On the 6th of December 2022 City of Masvingo commemorated the 16 days of Activism at the Civic Centre Hall. The event was commemorated under the theme, All Lives Matter, End Gender Based Violence Now!
The event was well attended with Faith Based Organization and Non-Governmental Organizations also taking part. The event was graced by the DDC, Acting Town Clerk, Councilors and Junior Councilors.
It was highlighted that Zimbabwe had come up with a plan of coordinating a mechanism to eliminate child marriages and teenage pregnancies which are on the rise. Hence Council was commended for commemorating the even against GBV and Child marriage.

16 days of activism against Gender Based Violence

As City of Masvingo we take part with the rest of the World in commemorating the 16 days of activism against Gender Based Violence. The commemorations begin on the 25th of November and ends on the 10th of December. The theme for the year 2022 is, “All lives matter: End Gender Based Violence now.” During the same period, we celebrate the World Aids Day on the 1st of December with the global theme, “Putting Ourselves to the Test: Achieving Equity to End HIV.” The Ministry of Health and Child Care also participates under the mantra, “Ending HIV/AIDS by 2030.” As we come to the end on the 10th of December we commemorate the Human rights day with the theme, “Dignity, Freedom and Justice for all.” As City of Masvingo we say zero tolerance to GBV. ALL LIVES MATTER

Masvingo City Council scopes the Gender Responsive Budget award and the Centers of Excellence Bronze award.

The Zimbabwe Gender Summit whose thematic focus was on Gender Responsive Budgeting was held from 17 – 18 November 2022. All Local authorities in Zimbabwe show cased their best practices in Local Government Institutional Centre of Excellence and Gender Responsive Budgeting. Gender Links in partnership with the Ministry of Local Government and Public Works will also launch the gender responsive budgeting toolkit for local government at the summit.

Masvingo City Council made history for being the first Local Authority in Zimbabwe to scope the Gender Responsive Budget award and the Centers of Excellence Bronze award.

The award ceremony was presented by the Minister of Local Government and Public Works, Minister, Hon. July. G. Moyo.
