2000 tree planting drive targets schools

City of Masvingo has held a belated national tree planting day at Dikwindi Primary School under the theme; ‘Trees and Forests for Ecosystem Restoration and Improved Livelihoods ‘, targeting 2000 trees in the year 2025.
Schools will be pivotal in achieving this goal, as the project seeks to collaborate with schools in the planting and nurturing of tress.
The project seeks to engage schools in planting and caring for trees, aiming to foster a sustainable, greener Masvingo.
The tree planting exercise not only strengthen Masvingo’s climate resilience but also illustrate the impact of Nature-Based Solutions in addressing climate changes, building a sustainable future for Masvingo and the country.
The event was attended by distinguished guests, including the Assistant DDC, Mr. Madziva, His Worship the Mayor, Cllr Aleck Tabe, Councilors, Town Clerk, City of Masvingo Management, staff, representatives from government ministries, teachers, parents and school children.

Ongoing initiatives and recent developments

The City of Masvingo has been working on improving educational infrastructure, including construction of Rujeko Secondary School.
Council is currently constructing three (3) more classroom blocks to cope with the increased enrolment of pupils. The blocks under construction have reached 90% physical completion.
The new classroom blocks will feature cutting edge facilities, including smart classrooms and multimedia learning spaces.
The construction of the classroom blocks is an important step toward improving education in the community. It demonstrates a commitment to providing students with better learning environments and addressing the challenges posed by population growth and overcrowded schools.

Inside City of Masvingo’s major infrastructure upgrades

The City of Masvingo’s Engineering Services Department is making significant progress in its efforts to ensure safer and more accessible roads for commuters through the ERRP program.
Currently, the project has seen 1.4km of tar patching, 380m gravel patching, 1 951m drain desilting and clearing, replacement and installation of 30 traffic signs, 33 catchpits cleaned, 22 loads of silt hauled, 221m drain excavation, 200m spot re-gravelling, and 6 culvert openings complete, marking an important milestone in transforming the city, into a safer and more commuter-friendly environment.

This morning, distinguished City of Masvingo officials; His Worship, the Mayor Cllr Aleck Tabe, Town Clerk Eng. Edward Mukaratirwa, Chamber Secretary, Mr. Vitalis Shonhai, Finance Director, Mr. Danister Jori, Economic Development Officer, Mr. Godfrey Mutsiveri and the Public Relations Officer, Ms Ashleigh Jinjika graced the brunch and business conference running under the theme: Harnessing Investment and Business Opportunities for Economic Growth, a key initiative promoting investment in Masvingo as a beacon of prosperity.
A key highlight of the event was the celebration of Commissioner. Sternly Kondongwe – Director of Byword Motors who was recently appointed Commissioner of the Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service (ZPCS) commission.
With a wealth of experience in business and leadership, Kondongwe is a testament to excellence and resilience, and his recognition at this conference underscores the importance of honoring individuals who drive socio-economic development in the city.
On investment opportunities offering, City of Masvingo is an ideal investment destination with special tourism development zones, renewable energy projects, real estate boom, Shagashe Game Park Revival, Water Augmentation Project.
Today’s event was also graced by the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Masvingo Province, Hon: Ezra Chadzamira, Commissioner General for ZPCS commission, Dr Moses Chihobvu and former cabinet Minister, Dzikamai Mavhaire among other captains of industry.

City of Masvingo embarks on nationwide Clean-Up initiative

In a bid to promote a cleaner and healthier environment, the City of Masvingo has joined forces with the rest of the nation to participate in a comprehensive clean-up initiative.
The objective of the initiative is to foster a sense of ownership and responsibility among residents, businesses, and institutions to encourage proper waste disposal, and environmentally friendly habits.
Council partnernered with EMA and local businesses to promote clean-up efforts in the city and encourage employee participation.
Community groups also collaborated with council to engage residents and promote environmental awareness.
Together, we can create a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable environment for everyone!

MAYOR DISTRIBUTES CHEERFUND ITEMS TO LESS PRIVILEGED

As part of the city’s annual Cheerfund initiative, His Worship, the Mayor, Cllr Aleck Tabe distributed essential items to less privileged members of the community on Thursday the 19th of December 2024.
The event, held in the Civic Centre Town Hall, saw the Deputy Mayor, Cllr Daniel Mberikunashe handing over food hampers, clothing, and toiletries to deserving homes, individuals and families on behalf of the Mayor.
“The Cheerfund initiative is a testament to our city’s commitment to caring for its most vulnerable citizens,” said Deputy Mayor, Cllr Daniel Mberikunashe. “I am grateful to our donors and partners for their generosity and support”, he said.
The Cheerfund program is an annual city-wide initiative that aims to provide essential items to those in need, bringing joy and hope to the less privileged during the holiday season.
Recipients of this year’s Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund includes, National Council for the Disabled, Zimbabwe parents of handicapped children, Zimbabwe Association of the Visually Handicapped, M. MUGO Blind PRY (CAPOTA), Jairos Jiri Association, Ngomahuru Psychiatric Hospital, Ratidzo ZIMCARE Trust, M. MUGO (CAPOTA)High School, Henry Murray School, CAPOTA workshop, Masvingo Provincial Hospital, Alpha Cottage, Disability Amalgamation Community Trust, Mucheke Old People’s Home, Alfred Walter Hospital, Pioner Cottage, Masvingo wheel chair tennis club, Zimbabwe Albino Association, Mazorodze maternity ward and Foster parents.
