Key highlights included investment opportunities in the city which include; commercial real estate boom, industrial expansion, clean energy future and warehousing.

The City of Masvingo recently launched a comprehensive health education campaign aimed at raising awareness and promoting healthier lifestyles among school children across the city.

The campaign, which will be rolled out in all local schools, is part of the council’s ongoing efforts to ensure a healthier future for the community.

The first school which benefited from the campaign is Masvingo Christian College. Issues discussed included, drug and substance abuse, prevention of teenage pregnancies and adolescence and menstrual hygiene.

The primary goal of this initiative is to educate young people about key health issues, including hygiene, mental well-being, physical activity, and the prevention of common diseases.

By empowering students with knowledge about health practices, Council aims to cultivate a generation that values wellness and adopts healthier habits that will last a lifetime.

In a decisive move to support families affected by the perennial floods, council has allocated 10 residential stands to the severely affected flood victims in Davis Mugabe Street as part of ongoing recovery efforts.

The serviced residential stands are being allocated in phases beginning with the first 10 severely affected, followed by 15 which were moderately affected and eventually 14 which were least affected.

This resolution aims to provide displaced families with a permanent solution to their housing challenges, allowing them to rebuild their homes and restore stability.

In a move aimed at supporting local sports development, the City of Masvingo has offered Wangu Mazodze Football Club free access to Mucheke stadium for training sessions.

This gesture underscores council’s commitment to promoting sports, fostering community engagement, and providing local teams with the necessary resources to succeed.

The initiative allows the football club, which has been an integral part of the community, to make use of one of Council’s sporting facility without the burden of additional costs.

By waiving the usual fees for stadium access, Council aims to provide the club with a high-quality environment to train, enhance their skills, and prepare for upcoming competitions.

In a proactive move to better understand the state of local healthcare services, the Health, Housing and Environmental Services committee today embarked on a tour of Council clinics.

The tour aimed to assess the infrastructure, services provided, and the general conditions of the healthcare facilities to ensure they meet the needs of the community.

The objective of the tour was to gather first-hand information about the current challenges faced by Council clinics and to discuss potential improvements. Runyararo Swimming Pool Construction Project is on track, with significant progress being made each day.

In a strong show of solidarity, the City of Masvingo has joined the nation in a nationwide environmental clean-up campaign, aimed at promoting cleanliness, environmental conservation, and the well-being of local communities.

The Presidential initiative, which saw active participation from government officials, local residents, environmental groups, and various companies, is part of a larger national effort to restore and protect the environment from the impacts of pollution.

As part of the nationwide environmental clean-up initiative, Council took decisive steps to address littering, waste management, and environmental degradation that have become significant challenges in urban areas.

The City of Masvingo is transitioning to an integrated solid waste management system with an engineered landfill at Cambria farm and establishment of an infectious diseases hospital.

Councillors and Council management this week toured a waste management site at Geo Pomona and City of Harare’s Beatrice Road Infectious Diseases Hospital to get an insightful and informative initiative allowing a better understanding of key aspects of public health, environmental sustainability, and waste management.

The tour was vital for identifying the processes, and encouraging collaborative solutions with key expects.

The tour aimed to educate Councillors and Council officials about waste management practices and how hospitals handle infectious diseases, focusing on the importance of sanitation, public health, and environmental responsibility.

Geo Pomona Waste Management CEO and chairman, Dr. Dilesh Nguwaya led the tour together with the City of Masvingo’s Chamber Secretary, Mr Vitalis Shonhai.

The City of Masvingo held Junior Council selection on the 28th of March 2025 with 15 students from different schools within Masvingo’s municipal boundaries taking the reigns.

The mandate of the Junior Council, is to advocate for the rights and welfare of children, promote youth participation in decision-making, and enhance youth skills through capacity building. They also bridge the gap between the Council and children from Masvingo urban.
