2022 Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fundraising Golf Tournament, a Resounding Success

The City of Masvingo’s Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fundraising Golf Tournament held at the Masvingo Golf Club on Wendsday the 7th of December 2022 was a resounding success with overwhelming support from Golfers and Sponsors from the corporate world. The tournament managed to raise US$ 4 500.

The tournament was aimed at raising funds for the less privileged members of our community. The targeted beneficiaries include; Alpha Cottages Children’s Home, Copota School for the Blind, Association for the Visually Handicapped, Pioneer Trust, Alfred Walter Hostel, Jairos Jiri Association, John Mutikizizi Old People’s Home, Masvingo General Hospital, Mazorodze Martenity Home, Morgenster School for the Deaf, Morgenster Hospital, Mucheke Old People’s Home, National Council for Disabled Persons, Ngomahuru Psychiatric Hospital, Copota Workshop for the Blind, SPCA, ZIMCARE TRUST (MSVO BRANCH) Ratidzo School, Zimbabwe Parents for the Handicapped Children and ZIKI Cooperative Society so for the Blind.

Addressing guests and golfers who attended the tournament’s prize-giving ceremony and cocktail reception, City of Masvingo Town Clerk, Eng. E. Mukaratirwa highlighted the importance of giving to the less fortunate members of our society so that they can also have a good Christmas.

‘We would like to express our deepest gratitude for the valued support of the City of Masvingo’s Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fundraising Golf Tournament. Your donations are very important to us as they help in the continuity of the Mayor’s office’s efforts to assist the less privileged members of our community. This would have not been successful without your act of generosity in support of the golf tournament’, he said.

Also speaking during the event, Masvingo Golf Club captain Mr Callisto Rukuni applauded the relationship between the Masvingo Business community, the Golfers and Masvingo City Council. He said much hope is that the amicable working relationship will see the development and growth of the City of Masvingo which has a vision to be an industrialised metropolitan city by 2030. He chronicled some of the partnerships’ achievements to date.
Apart from the fundraising golf tournament, the Masvingo Business community as well as individuals had earlier on contributed towards the Mayor’s Christmas Cheer Fund from the day of the launch on the 2nd of November 2022.

The fundraising golf tournament whose key sponsors were Byword Motors, Econet Wireless, Great Zimbabwe Realtors, Regency Hotels, Exor, FBC Holdings, Praise Coast, Well East Ceramic, Schweppes Zimbabwe, Amtec Motors, Nanolean, Masvingo Brick n Tyle, Regency Hotels Flamboyant, Caravan Park, Doczine, Proper Engineering, Midweek Watch attracted golfers from the southern region including Zvishavane and Renco.

Major boost for City of Masvingo’s City Health Department As SolidarMed donates US$ 1000 worth of medicines

The City of Masvingo’s Health Services Department got a major boost today the 18th of May 2022 when it received medicine worth US$ 1000 from SolidarMed.

The aid of Ceftriaxone drug was sourced by the Health Department and this is not the first time the SolidarMed has extended a helping hand to the City.

In his acceptance speech, the City of Masvingo Town Clerk, Eng. Edward Mukaratirwa commended SolidarMed for the gesture saying it will go a long way in addressing the issues to do with provision of health services to the communities.

 

‘This donation is appreciated and we are very grateful. It is also important to note that as Council, the donation dovetails with our Strategic Plan outcome of provision of public health and primary healthcare services’, he said.

 

Meanwhile the Chief Environmental Health Officer, Mrs Suzanne Madamombe said there was need for concerted efforts in boosting the health sector.

 

SolidarMed concentrates also offers services in three (3) rural districts in Masvingo.

Rujeko Isolation Centre

Shot in the arm of Rujeko Isolation Centre

In a development that is set to positively impact on the city’s health service delivery system, Masvingo Provincial COVID – 19 Taskforce chaired by Provincial Affairs Minister, Ezra Chadzamira has today toured Rujeko Isolation Centre to assess the standards set by World Health Organisation, and also donated building material worthy $ 100 000 towards the renovations of the facility.

Minister Chadzamira commended the City Fathers for responding to the government’s clarion call in assisting the nation in the fight against COVID – 19.

‘I would like to commend the City Fathers for heeding this call and it is all hands on deck as it has made commendable strides in ensuring the city has an Isolation Facility not to mention the efforts so far to renovate’, he commended.

N. Richards & Co donated the consignment and handed over to the Provincial Minister, Ezra Chadzamira.

City of Masvingo, Acting Town Clerk, Engineer Edward Mukaratirwa went on to commend the level of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) by the business community in the fight against COVID – 19.

‘The donations from N. Richards & Co are well appreciated. Their contribution will go a long way in ensuring that the Isolation Centre is fully prepared to deal with any positive COVID – 19 patient who might be admitted at the facility. This level of corporate social responsibility must be emulated by other businesses operating in the city, province and the nation at large’, said.

The Rujeko Isolation Centre has a carrying capacity of 10 patients.
