Zimbabwe National Olympic Committee meets City of Masvingo over Landmark OlympAfrica Centre Project
The Zimbabwe Olympic Committee (ZOC) has engaged the City of Masvingo as part of ongoing efforts to establish Zimbabwe’s first OlympAfrica Centre, a transformative sports and community development facility set to be constructed in the city.
The high-level engagement follows the City of Masvingo’s donation of land 3 ha for the proposed project, which is being implemented in partnership with OlympAfrica and the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa (ANOCA). The donated land is currently undergoing assessment to ensure it meets the requirements for the development of the multi-purpose sports facility.
The facility is intended to provide accessible sporting opportunities for young people while also incorporating income-generating projects to ensure long-term sustainability.
The visiting delegation, which included OlympAfrica Foundation Programme Manager Ms. Marieme Coumba from Senegal, conducted a site visit and held discussions with City of Masvingo officials to assess the suitability of the proposed location before the project proceeds to the next stage.
The proposed OlympAfrica Centre is expected to become a lasting legacy for Masvingo, promoting youth empowerment, community participation, talent identification, health and wellness, and socio-economic development through sport.
