Hon Sanyatwe commissions City of Masvingo’s State-of-the-Art Multipurpose Sports Courts

The City of Masvingo has taken a significant step towards transforming sport and youth development following the official commissioning of the newly constructed multipurpose sports courts at Mucheke Stadium by the Minister of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Lieutenant General (Retired) Anselem Sanyatwe.
The modern sports complex, constructed at a total cost of ZWG 1,992,028.66, comprises six multipurpose courts designed to cater for a variety of sporting disciplines. The project includes one dedicated basketball court, one dedicated netball court, one combined basketball and netball court, three courts for tennis and volleyball, and one court accommodating basketball, volleyball and tennis. In addition, modern ablution facilities were constructed to enhance the overall sporting experience.
The construction of the sports courts cost ZWG 689,514.33, while the ablution facilities were completed at a cost of ZWG 1,302,514.33, bringing the total investment to ZWG 1,992,028.66.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Lieutenant General (Retired) Sanyatwe commended the City of Masvingo for investing in sports infrastructure that will improve access to sporting facilities while nurturing talent and promoting healthy lifestyles.
The multipurpose courts are expected to serve as a premier sports hub for the Masvingo community by hosting local, provincial and national sporting competitions. The facility is also set to play a vital role in developing sporting talent, encouraging youth participation in sport, and contributing to the national fight against drug and substance abuse by providing young people with positive recreational opportunities.
The venue has already demonstrated its capacity to host major events, having successfully accommodated the National Disability Expo, the 2026 Zimbabwe Republic Police Commissioner-General’s Games, the 2026 All State Universities Games, the Inter-Municipal School Games, and the National Special Olympics Games.
Building on this impressive track record, Mucheke Stadium has also been selected to host the 2026 Inter-Municipal Games, scheduled for August 2026, further cementing Masvingo’s growing reputation as a centre for sporting excellence.
The commissioning of the multipurpose sports courts marks another milestone in the City of Masvingo’s commitment to improving public infrastructure and creating inclusive recreational spaces that foster community development, social cohesion and economic activity through sport.
Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution Masvingo Province Hon. Ezra Chadzamira expressed confidence that the investment will not only increase participation in sport but also position Masvingo as a preferred destination for regional and national sporting events, delivering long-term social and economic benefits to the city and its residents.
